Finished Pine Flooring
Southern Yellow Pine is term used to describe a variety of species, but the most common seen in flooring is the plantation grown Loblolly variety. Approximately 95% of total SYP production in the United States is of this variety. There are 3 categories of species that are considered to be Southern Yellow Pine. Soft pines such as white, lacebark pines (Christmas trees), and Yellow or hard pines. Inside of Yellow pine flooring are several sub species including Loblolly and Longleaf. Loblolly is what box stores and lumber yards sell, it is dimensional lumber, 2 x materials. Longleaf produces a distinctive look, more character with the color variations of sap wood.
